I finished my mom's hat! It's a really awkward fit for me. Far too wide. I definitely couldn't pull it off. But hopefully it'll be just right for my mom. If it's not, I'll buy her some more yarn and make her a better hat. I actually used gauge to decide how many stitches around the hat had to be, but every time I use gauge and make the hat with the number I get the hat turns out huge. I need to start subtracting maybe 2 inches worth of stitches from whatever my gauge calculations say. I used stitch markers for the first time to help with the decreasing. I didn't realize how important they are! The decrease for this hat turned out perfect. I messed up the decrease with the last several hats I made. I was counting in my head how many stitches to knit before decreasing, and I must have messed up my counting because I'd always end up with an uneven amount of stitches at some point during the decrease. The untrained eye wouldn't really be able to tell that the decrease was messed up, but I feel so much better about the decrease for this hat. I'm going to use stitch markers from now on with every single hat decrease!
I have a lot of work ahead of me... Since my last post, only a few hours ago, a friend of ours requested 4 hats (2 of them are Bella hats) and 3 kitty outfits. It's going to take me a while to finish that order! I should start a knitting business, haha.
