I'm making great headway on my mystery project. I'm about 1/3 of the way done with it, and I can't wait until it's done. It's a project I've been struggling with completing- probably because I have a time frame I'd like to finish it by. I'm not so good with deadlines and time frames. I hate structure!! I'll post pictures of the project when I've finished it and given it to it's intended owner.
I also started working on a new project today- I am always working on 2 or more projects. I like having choices when I decide it's knitting time. =) I'm working on a hat for charity. Everyone who knows how to knit or crochet should contribute at least 1 hat to this charity because it's going to a great cause! They are asking for newborn size hats (13 inch crowns) and hats that small don't take long to make at all! I started mine this afternoon and I'll definitely finish it today- if my little dude doesn't keep me too busy. They will be sending the hats to some of the poorest countries in Latin America, Africa, and Asia, with the hopes that giving them to newborns in those poor countries can save some lives and prevent some illnesses! Here is a ton of information about the charity with more details. It even includes patterns for those who don't make up their own! If anyone else plans on making some hats for this charity, please let me know! I'd love to find out if my advertising has actually recruited anyone. =) Here's a picture of my hat in progress. I love the diagonal pattern being formed with this variegated yarn! I'm using some scrap yarn in my stash until I get out and buy some yarn specifically for these hats. I'm going to be making more!
Took me some doing to get your blog as the link in your email didn't work. Then I looked at it and realized you've repeated the http://, take a look if you've got that in your email signature you'll want to change it so people can find your blog. Nice template too on the blog think you'll enjoy blogging.
ReplyDeleteGlad to see you get into the charity knitting and crocheting there is so much need in ever corner of our country, I tend not to get involved in those that are more global; plus the additional cost of postage can be a factor. Though I wish you the very best of luck with your quest.
Love the pretty yarn, and agree the pattern is nice with the ribs. DP's....I've not yet made anything using DP's myself. I'm big on circle needles and have them in lots of sizes.
Like you, I like to have lots of projects of going for variety. Some items that are easy I can do on the fly, and not be worried about counting or a pattern, and more difficult or larger items for here at home.
Nice to meet you, good luck with the blog, and the charity quest. Look forward to your donations For Bridge and Beyond, and with seeing other items you make.
Sorry I had the link wrong! I fixed it now! The charity I'm doing with the baby hats for other countries is actually based in the US. I will be sending my hats to someplace in this country and they are taking care of sorting them out and shipping them to their selected locations in the other countries. I'm so thankful for that because shipping WOULD be outrageous if I had to send them internationally!
ReplyDeleteI hate DPNs, but I've never seen circular needles smaller than 16". The hats have to stretch the whole way around the needles and when the needles are longer than the hat width it's impossible. The baby hat I'm making has a 13" crown width and my smallest circulars would be far too long for it. I definitely prefer circular needles too and use ONLY circular needles for adult hats.
Popped back in order to test your link for you, yep...you're rollin now, got it fixed. I use 16's for all sized hats...are you making a preemie? Maybe even how stretchy the yarn is has something to do with it.
ReplyDeleteGlad to hear you're not going to have to do the shipping yourself, makes a big difference.
I think sometimes the wooden circulars might be slightly less, I actually measured one the other day, cause my needles all needed to be re-organized and it was 13 tip to tip, though am pretty sure when I bought it it was labeled 16.
the other thing you might to do to find more folks to read your blog is visit all those following you and visit people on their blog logs, leave comments and see if some of them make their way here. Start your own blog log as well.
ReplyDeleteGood luck
