Well, we are not 100% sure about the gender of the baby. But we think it's a boy. I had an abdominal ultrasound at first to check on the placenta and the baby, and then a vaginal one to check my cervix closer to see if it might be the reason for my spotting. The technician recorded the abdominal ultrasound (which isn't as clear as a vaginal one) and she said that she couldn't determine the sex. But when we did the vaginal ultrasound I thought I saw a penis, I pointed it out to her, and she said, "Yep, that's a penis." I joked that I was hoping it was a girl and she reassured me that it's still too early to be positive. But I'm pretty sure it was a penis. I was able to get a screenshot of the boy parts from the DVD of the abdominal ultrasound but it was only on the screen for a brief second and I'm not surprised the technician didn't notice it at the time. The picture isn't perfectly clear, but it was much more obvious on the other ultrasound which wasn't recorded. I guess I need to spend some quality time thinking about boy names, don't ya think? Here are a few pics from the ultrasound. She didn't print out any pictures for me so I had to capture these shots myself from the DVD while playing it on my computer. Click on the pictures to enlarge them and see them in better detail.

Boy Parts |
This is the "boy parts" screenshot. I also managed to get a screenshot where it looks like there are 3 lines and it looks like girl parts (That one is below the boy parts picture). I'm thinking it's most likely a boy since I saw some pretty convincing boy parts on the vaginal ultrasound, but I won't be completely surprised if we find out it's officially a girl at the 20 week ultrasound. Weirder things have happened.

And in case anyone is wondering, everything is fine. The heartbeat is 146 beats per minute, I DO have an anterior placenta but it's not near my incision scar, and there is nothing unusual going on which would be the cause of my spotting. I have my next appointment and my next ultrasound on September 27th. Can't wait!
How wonderful! I worked w/a man that already had 3 daughters. The Ultrasound showed that baby #4 was definitely a boy. The day that the baby was born...the bulletin board announced the wt. and the name.... "Rose". I said that sure is a funny name for a boy. Just goes to show ya that the tests aren't 100% correct all the time. Enjoy! I'm so glad that things are going well for you.
ReplyDeleteWell boys are great too :). Glad everything is well
ReplyDeleteIf you want to start a new career, read sonograms because you have definitely picked out the parts....maybe not 100% identified them but still impressive! Looks like a boy but I see what you mean about the possible girl parts too.
