I haven't blogged since October. I almost forgot I have this blog, but I got on today to see if I had any comments recently. It turns out I'm still getting quite a lot of page views (mostly thanks to knittingpatterncentral.com where I have a few patterns posted)! I have gotten 27,000 total page views and I'm getting hundreds a week. Maybe I should start posting again! I'm still knitting and crocheting up a storm, so I could throw in some new patterns.
I'm currently working on a pair of armwarmers (bottom left of picture) to match a new purse I made (top middle of picture). The armwarmers are pretty basic, stockinette stitch and ribbed on both ends, but I'm writing down the pattern anyway so when I make the second one I can duplicate it exactly. I'll probably post the pattern when I'm done the first one, because I'll already have it all typed out. I'm so excited to finish them, although I'm having motivation issues. I only seem to do 1 or 2 rows at a time before I get sidetracked. Anyway, I know I'll be freezing my buns off this summer, because my husband blasts the AC constantly. I'll definitely be putting these armwarmers to use all year round.
I can't write or publish the pattern for the purse because the bottom part of the pattern isn't my work. The purse actually was a bit of an accident. I was trying to make a beret from someone else's pattern and I am far too stubborn to gauge before I make things. It turned out ridiculously large. The pattern was really awesome, so I ripped out all the decrease rows, and instead just kept crocheting evenly to make it a bag. I spent quite a lot of time devising my straps and how to connect them, and I think it turned out pretty nice.
In the picture, the little guy in sitting in front of my purse (I lovingly call him "Little Guy") is my first attempt at amigurumi without using a pattern. I first made a bunny from a pattern I found to learn the basic techniques, and then I created Little Guy and added one of my grandma's buttons to his belly.
The button on my purse is also one of my grandma's. She collected buttons, and I inherited her amazing collection when she passed away. =) She taught me to crochet when I was young. I forgot most of it, but when I got pregnant with my son I wanted to make him stuff, like mommys should, so I taught myself to crochet from a book. After a few months of crocheting I decided to teach myself to knit. I love the look of knit fabrics, and often prefer knit items to crocheted items. Unfortunately, I almost gave up knitting the first time I picked up the needles. It's really confusing for a pair of hands to learn knitting when they've been trained to crochet. Now they're both second nature to me, at least the basics are. I wish my grandma was still around to teach me more complex knitting/crocheting techniques, but I'm sure I'll pick it up as I go. I've only been crocheting for about 2 years, and knitting for 1. I'm still young, and I've got plenty of time to learn. I think my Granny would be proud of the crafter I've become, and I feel honored to put a few of her amazing buttons to crafty use.
