Today my mama and I went to Wal-Mart together and she randomly decided she wanted me to teach her how to knit. So we bought this fabulous yarn (2 balls for her, 1 for me) and 2 sets of straight needles (mine were at my house) and I taught her how to cast on, knit, and purl! She wants to make a scarf, and I hope she sticks to it! I am planning on making a hat out of this yarn using 2 straight needles. I've only ever knitted hats using DPNs and circular needles, so this should be an adventure. Who knows, maybe I'll like the way it looks with a seam. On top of all that, my mom gave me a little measuring tape that my granny (RIP) used to keep in her sewing box. I'm sure she'd be proud that I'm using it for such crafty things, like measuring the gauge of my hat when my little gauge tool isn't around.
I am also still making my mom's hat with yarn she picked out. I'm anxious for it to be done because I have so many other projects I want to do. I want to try out some mittens next! I've never made any of them before. Did I mention yet that I taught myself to knit out of a book a few months ago? I'm not an extremely good knitter yet, but I think I'm coming along pretty well! It's probably much easier to learn from a person than a book though.
