Worsted Weight Yarn
Double Pointed Needles: Size 8 (5mm)
Gauge: About 10 stitches wide = 2 inches (5.08 cm) = 12 rows
This hat would be a good size for a newborn baby or a late preemie. If you find your hat turns out a little too small you could try using bigger needles than I did or add some extra rows before you start the decrease. We all knit differently!
Cast on 48 stitches (16 on each of 3 needles)
Rows 1-5: Knit 8, Purl 8 around
Rows 6-10: Purl 8, Knit 8 around
Rows 11-15: Knit 8, Purl 8 around
Rows 16-25: Knit around
Row 26: *Knit 6, K2tog* around
Row 27: *Knit 5, K2tog* around
Row 28: *Knit 4, K2tog* around
Row 29: *Knit 3, K2tog* around
Row 30: *Knit 2, K2tog* around
Row 31: *Knit 1, K2tog* around
Row 32: *K2tog* around
Fasten off, and use a yarn needle to pull the remaining yarn through the last 6 stitches. Pull tight and weave in ends.
